What human quality do we need more of?

A younger brother of mine was presented with this question as part of his personal assessment for a job interview. I found the question very intriguing and it got me thinking of that human quality that the world could benefit from by having more of … the first thing that came to mind was empathy. Yes, empathy! If more people were capable of understanding and sharing the feelings of one another the world would most certainly be a better place.

We also need more good listeners – we all want to talk even if we have nothing of value to say. We’re so in love with the sound of our own voice that we drown everything and everyone around us with our selfishness and narcissistic inclinations. So the world could certainly use more listeners!

Another quality I believe we should have more of is passion! If you’ve ever read any of my posts, or attended any of my trainings or workshops, you definitely know that passion is at the core of my teaching. Passion is what drives us, what lifts us, what make us … the world could certainly use more of this internal force.

We could use more creativity, intuition,  life-long learning, self-awareness, humbleness, … the list continues! The more I dwell on the subject the more I realize that in reality, we lack none of this!!! The world has plenty of empathy, good listeners, passionate people, creators, humbleness … that’s not what the world is missing! These are not the qualities we lack; I refuse to believe we lack any of the qualities I mentioned earlier. So what is the best answer for that simple yet illusive question?

Answer:

BALLS

Yes, you heard me (read me :p) We lack balls! We’re all creative, empathetic, humble, kind, selfless, intuitive, good listeners … but it requires BALLS to disclose of such qualities. You need BALLS to stand up to what you believe in, even if it’s against the norm! You need BALLS to stand up for love against those immersed in the comfort of life! You need BALLS to implement that idea of yours that everyone dubbed you a fool for even considering it. You need BALLS to save that stray puppy that was left to die by his previous enslavers. You need BALLS to defend the helpless, the voiceless, the weak, the lacking, the needy, … You need BALLS if you want to love, be successful, be happy, be different, be remembered, be YOU!

So that next time you’re asked this question in a job interview have the BALLS to say, “the world needs more BALLS!”
